Guide to Frogs - the complete story!

Vincent Carruthers is South Africa's own "frog-guy".  But more than that, he knows what ordinary people involved in conservation need. Vincent is a supporter of conservancies, and promotes the concept actively.  He understands what conservancies require in a guide.

This complete guide contains clear identification points, beautiful photographs and includes a CD containing the calls of nearly all South Africa's frogs.  Don't be surprised if a chorus of frogs join in while you listen!

Cape Nature setting the trend again

Chris Martens - a well-know and respected name in Conservation - has been tasked with creating the environment in which the transfer of skills can take place through mentorship. Chris is certainly qualified for the task and brings a wealth of experience.

CapeNature has  appointed Chris as manager of a formalised mentoriship and coaching programme.  The programme will look at job competency, gaps in skills and experience,  and the pairing of mentors and mentees.

Hartebeestontein Conservancy's website

Our website is being viewed by visitors from around the globe - East, West and Central America, Ireland, Scotland, England, France, India, China, Japan, Australia, North and West Africa.  And of course, there are many visitors from all over South Africa.

The committee has now invited members of the Conservancy to use the website to introduce and promote their own activities and businesses.

We are starting with a request for a short paragraph (50 words) to describe the business, together with a logo or matching photograph.

The businesses and ventures will be listed over time and our members will hopefully benefit.

It matters to this toad

Reminiscent of story of saving one starfish at a time, the Noordhoek Unpaid Toad Savers (NUTS) save one tiny toad at a time.

The mass migration of the Western Leopard Toad takes place over a busy tarred road.  Undeterred, this group of volunteer “air-lift” the young toads to safety by the hundreds.

The volunteers have started a website which tracks their progress, activities and news.  It is a focussed site, with frequent updates.

This initiative is turning the spotlight onto Noordhoek and putting conservation first.

Elandsvlei uses Facebook to keep in touch with the many people who enjoy the area.  Most recently, a braai competition.  A great way to keep people coming back.

The Dana Bay Conservancy is one of those areas plagued by insensitive drivers.  Look at their posters which work to alert drivers and other users of the Conservancy.
